ORGANISED THEFT CONTROL
The food and grocery retailer contacted Knight Watch due to a huge decline in revenue because to being a victim of organized thefts, these thefts had been an ongoing problem for the retailer during a long period of time since the modus operandi of the thefts where quite ingenious and could be conducted without being detected even though the thefts were conducted in plain sight to customers and personnel.
The offender simply filled a shopping cart with high value groceries – acting as a normal costumer, while their accomplice waited at the entrance gates. When the shopping chart was filled the offender simply walked to the store entrance and the awaiting accomplice entered the store, opening the entrance gates and simultaneously the offender left the store undetected together with the high value groceries.
OUR SOLUTION
Even though the retailer invested in on-site security personnel the modus operandi allowed the thefts to be conducted without detection and the current security solution needed assistance from other sources -in this specific challenge from technology.
Securitas implemented a video analysis solution for wrong way detection in the store entrance that made it possible for the costumers to enter the store, but if any one attempted to leave the store using the entrances a loud alarm would be triggered letting the security guard know that the wrong way detection had triggered and the security guard could intervene instantaneously.
The solution proved its efficiency after the first day of operation, and today the thefts has been brought down to almost zero, increasing the customers revenue.
